Harley Davidson Jackets - Decide on the Perfect Option

Harley Davidson Jackets are available in varying shapes and sizes. As a Harley buff, you are lucky to have many excellent choices when deciding on a jacket. The tough part, of course, is wading through all the choices to pick out the perfect one.

The most important concern is likely whether to opt for leather or a synthetic material. There are pros and cons to both, but in the end it's probably a personal choice.

If you are looking for a classy Harley Leather jacket, no amount of persuasion will convince you to choose a synthetic. Stick with me for a few minutes, though, and allow me to show off the various styles available.

Harley Leather Jackets

The most popular Harley Davidson Jackets are leather. Leather is the champ of great looks. It's luxurious feel and silky exterior are unparalleled and never go out of vogue. There are many different models of Harley leather jackets though, in general, leather offers fewer options for color and style than synthetics.

Another possible problem: leather can be overly hot. The weight of the material provides a balancing act -- thicker material provides superior safety but can be too hot in the summer. Several jackets utilize perforated leather to counteract this concern, but it is not an ideal substitute for the adaptability of synthetics. Heavier leather also has a longer "loosening" period and can be inflexible initially.

A quick note about leather measurements: leather that measures less than one millimeter in thickness is considered lightweight, whereas leather thicker than 1.5 mm is very heavy. Anything in between is considered mid-weight.

Synthetic Jackets

If you are wanting classic styling, synthetic jackets may probably never exceed leather. But a synthetic can be very good looking, and may offer much of a premium when it comes to functionality.

Many different choices in materials present themselves when opting for a synthetic. The most popular is Cordura, an abrasion-resistant substance that can be found in backpacks and luggage. Cordura jackets are frequently treated to become at the same time waterproof and permeable, a la Gore-Tex. They also often feature interior body protection pads in the elbows, shoulders and/or spine. Opt for CE-rated pads for the safest level of abrasion resistance.

Next, since synthetic materials can be easily colored, they are frequently sold in a great variety of color choices. And finally, these jackets are frequently very adjustable -- some have vents that provide more air circulation, or washable interior liners that provide extra insulation.

Nylon and Denim Jackets

Other types of materials may provide their own tradeoffs. Denim, for example, provides a unique proposition: a type of classic look which is appealing to many, and is cooler in the summer than leather. Nylon, for example, provides configurability and some of the cooling options of a synthetic but, depending on your taste, might not offer up the classic looks of leather.

Harley Women's Jackets

One brief word about ladies jackets...

Finding jackets that are designed only with women in mind is now a possibility. You'll be pleasantly surprised with the choices out there. Most of the synthetic jackets are designed to be unisex, but at least a few options are available that are specifically intended for women. Opting for a leather jacket provides a wide range of choices for tailored, classy women's jackets.
